Orthokeratology, or Ortho-K as it is commonly called, is a contact lens you wear at night and remove in the morning. While you sleep, the specially designed lens gently reshapes the cornea of your eye to correct your vision. At Eye focus Optometrist we specialised in fitting Ortho- K lenses.
How does Orthokeratology work?
Without the use of Ortho-K lenses, an increase of the eyes’ axial length causes faraway objects to focus in front of the retina. This causes a blurred image.
>While wearing Ortho-K lenses at night, the front surface of the eye is gradually and gently reshaped so that light can focus clearly on both the central and peripheral retina.
When removing Ortho-K lenses in the morning, your eyes will retain clear and unimpeded vision for the whole day without the need for corrective lenses!
Ortho-K treatment is especially beneficial to school age children and teenagers, as studies have shown that long term Ortho-K treatment can help to slow the progression of shortsightedness.
While you are sleeping, the unique design of the lenses gently reshape the cornea overnight to allow clear and unimpeded vision for the whole day without the need for corrective lenses. It is ideal for sport-lovers, swimmers or workers who have occupational demands not suitable for traditional corrective approaches. Some examples are those who work in dusty or heavily air-conditioned and heated environments such as pilots and fire fighters.
Not only is the treatment non- invasive and non-surgical alternative to laser refractive surgery, it is also safe for children, teenagers and adults.
